With the economy where it is if you are taking a vacation or you have to travel for business or family needs, finding a way to save is important to everyone. The following are five ways you can try to find cheap airfare.
Find Winter and Spring Sales ” Now that fuel prices have dropped and the demand for the holidays is gone, air lines continue to drop fares to certain destinations. Find a major low cost airline and they will probably be having some sort of sale, especially if you purchase in advance. In 2009 I think you should see generally lower airfares that you did last year. Dont be tempted to hold out for a lower price, if you see a price you can afford, book it now.
Watch those extra fees – When you find the real cheap fares, be sure to look out for the hidden fees that make it more than a less “discount” ticket. Checked bags are the big ones. Some airlines charge a huge fee for checked bags. Make sure you are not paying this fee on top of your ticket, when you could pay a little more for a ticket and not pay the large baggage fee. Best bet is to carry on and avoid these fees all together, but that isn’t always possible.
Become a member of airline websites – Many airlines have a mailing list where they will send you the deals that they have available. You can be the first to know when an airline is having a special and that is the best time to book, before anybody else.
Find Destinations that aren’t as High Demand – Sometimes if you just fly into an airport and drive a little ways you may be able to save some money. One instance I have done with this before is I flew into Sanford Florida as opposed to Orlando. It is only about a 30 minute drive to Orlando at it was about 200 dollars cheaper than flying into Orlando International.
If you have to save on your hotel instead of your flight – Hotel rates are declining for the first time in at least 5 years. This is where you can really save. If you are unable to save on your flight try to save big on a hotel to make up for it. You should be able to use an online booking service to find an excellent deal.
I always post about good travel deals. There is always some fancy way to save on your travels. Keep your eyes open for future articles on how to save some dough.
